Nivison, Alex Stratford (A.S.)
Alex Stratford (Poss) Nivison was a New England grazier and sheep breeder. Married to Nancy Nivison, they established Mirani, north of Walcha in 1927. He was the grandson of Abraham and Mary Nivison of Ohio.
Nivison was as a member of the Australian Imperial Forces, and served on the Western Front with the 5th and 7th Field Artillery.
In the 1920s, when the family partnership was dissolved, A. S. Nivison received the northern section of Ohio, which he named Mirani.
An innovative pastoralist, Nivison was always interested in pasture improvement. From 1922 Nivison strove to improve Mirani's carrying capacity and to breed bigger-framed, fine-wool sheep by experimenting with pastures, animal health (control of internal parasites) and nutrition.
