J Richardson & Co.
Description
Description
Richardson's (J. Richardson & Co Ltd) was a prominent department store in Armidale, New South Wales, which operated from 1842 until 1992. Originally established in Brisbane, the business relocated to Armidale in 1872 and constructed its landmark 'universal providers' emporium at 195 Beardy Street in 1904. While its hardware and agricultural divisions were sold in 1983 and continue to operate independently, the main department store was downsized before its final sale in 1992. Today, the original heritage-listed building is part of the Armidale Plaza shopping centre complex and is known as Richardson's Arcade.
