Nichol, Lawrence Walter Prof
Lawrence Walter Nichol was a prominent biochemist and academic administrator and the fifth Vice Chancellor of the University of New England from 1985 to 1988. Following his tenure at UNE, he returned to ANU as Vice Chancellor (1988–1993), where he navigated a period of significant reform in the Australian higher education landscape. A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Nichol was recognized for his contributions to the understanding of protein interactions and his leadership in university governance. His time in Armidale is noted for both his administrative drive and the active social role he and his wife, Rosemary, maintained within the university community.
