McClymont, GL (Bill) Prof
Professor Gordon Lee "Bill" McClymont AO (1920–2000) was the foundation Dean of the Faculty of Rural Science at the University of New England. McClymont led the Rural Science faculty as dean for 21 years.
McClymont's "All Flesh is Grass" address became the blueprint for UNE’s unique Rural Science curriculum. It established the university as a global pioneer in multidisciplinary agricultural education. He created an agro-ecological "systems thinking" model that combined animal husbandry, agronomy, soil science, and economics into whole-farm production.
In 1967 he received the Australian Poultry Award. In 1978 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for service to veterinary science and agricultural research. In 1986 McClymont received an Honorary Doctor of Rural Science from the University of New England.
He is commemorated by the UNE Bill McClymont Memorial Scholarship, funded by alumni and graduates to support incoming Rural Science students.
