Wright, Charlotte May
Charlotte May Wright was a prominent New England pastoralist and social reformer. The granddaughter of George Wyndham of Dalwood, she spent her early married life at Nulalbin, Queensland, before relocating to Kangaroo Hills in the New England region in 1885, where she and her husband established the property "Wongwibinda."
Following the sudden death of her husband Albert in 1890, Wright assumed management of the family’s pastoral interests. Despite the economic depression of the 1890s and contemporary societal expectations, she successfully maintained and expanded the business, purchasing the nearby properties of Wallamumbi (1900) and Jeogla (1901).
In 1911, Wright initiated a personal social welfare program, arranging for the emigration of girls from impoverished areas of England to Wongwibinda, where she provided for their maintenance and education.
