Abott, Percy Phipps (Colonel)
Abbott was born in Hobart and educated at The Hutchins School there. He came to Sydney in 1888. After matriculating in 1889, he studied Law. He opened a practice as a solicitor in Glen Innes in 1884. In 1901, Abbott married Elizabeth Gidley King (daughter of G.B. Gidley King, General Manager of the Peel River L.& M. Co. Estate at Goonoo Goonoo).
Abbott served a political apprenticeship as an alderman on the Glen Innes council for twelve years; being Mayor for 4 successive years. He became Member of the House of Representatives for New England in 1913 and held the seat without an election while on active service abroad. He served with the A.I.F. (commanding both light-horse and infantry units in Egypt, Gallipoli and Flanders). Abbott also served in the Commonwealth Senate, 1925-28.
