Arthur Wellesley and Robert Reld Cuninghame "Wellington Vale"
This small collection is comprised of three items:
Item 1: Journal (1837, 1844-46) recording the journey of Arthur Wellesley Robertson from Leith (Scotland) to Sydney, via VDL aboard the "Perthshire" in 1837.
The Journal closes on 30 July during the last leg of the voyage from Hobart to Sydney after which it served as an account book and, commencing in 1844, as a rations issue book and record of wool weights. Final entries occur in 1846. The accounts section and associated entries were probably maintained by Robert Reid Cuninghame-Robertson and Arthur Wellesley Robertson-Cuninghame who jointly ran "Wellington Vale" Station during the 1840's.
Item 2: Notebook (1843-45)
This also serves partly as a journal and partly as an account book. The journal section (undated) commences sometime after 14 Aug. and records the purchase of stock. Evidence suggests that the journal section was maintained by Robert Reid Cuninghame-Robertson as a rough pencil draft of a letter dated 24 Apr.1845 is initialed RRCR. The Notebook also contains a rough ( and undated) list of property (equipment) and stock at "Wellington Vale".
Item 3. Framed Portrait
The portrait (watercolour) is in an undated-gilt frame 41Omm x 360mm n.d but c.1850's. Back of frame inscribed "RRCR 1817/1883".
