Bickham Station Records, Blandford
The series provides valuable evidence of changing employment practices, taxation systems, and station economics across a period of significant social and economic transformation in rural New South Wales. The rations account book (1879-1894) records the provision of food and supplies to station employees during the colonial period. Later volumes document the impact of 20th century social legislation and taxation on pastoral operations, including an Employees Relief Tax record book (1931-1933) showing compliance with Depression-era welfare taxation, and a Wages Tax book (1934-1940) recording payroll tax obligations during the late Depression and early wartime period. The journal and cash receipt book (1901-1906, with later entries 1930-1950) and wages ledger (1924-1933) provide complementary financial documentation showing operational costs, employee payments, and cash flow management.
