Armidale Gaol
Description
Date1849-1920Description
Armidale Gaol was established following a proclamation in 1859, with the first prisoners received in 1863, serving the northern New South Wales tablelands as a minor police gaol for short-term detentions.
The facility was formally decommissioned in 1920, after which it stood unused for several years. In 1927 permission was granted to demolish the gaol, and demolition took place in 1928–1929 to make way for the new Armidale Teachers’ College, which began construction on the site.
