Classical Antiquity refers to the study of the civilisations of the Ancient Mediterranean and UNEMA first started as the UNE Classics Museum, formed from the teaching collections of UNE’s founding discipline of Classics. The collections of UNEMA’s Department of Classical Antiquities cover the Ancient Near East, Cyprus, Egypt, and Greek, Italic, and Roman worlds. The jewels of the collection include the James R.B. Stewart Collection of Cypriot artefacts dating from the Neolithic to the Medieval Period, and Jordanian Pella Collection dating from the Early Bronze Age IV to Abbasid Caliphate.
