Brewon Station records, Walgett
The Brewon Station records document station management practices, land acquisition under conditional purchase and lease legislation, labour relations, wool production, livestock management, and the economic networks supporting pastoral enterprise in western New South Wales from the colonial period through the mid-20th century.
Operational and financial records form the core of the series and include ledgers (1876-1934); journals (1883-1916) showing monthly debits and credits; daybooks (1880-1948); cash books (1879-1928); stores journals (1882-1924) documenting supplies issued to employees and station accounts and shearers' daybooks (1880-1889).
Specialized operational records include wool books (1883-1899), paddock books (1880-1922) documenting sheep, cattle, shearing, classing, lambing, and earmarks; a station diary (1912); wages books (1907-1931); a letterpress book (1918-1920) preserving outgoing correspondence; and account sales records for wool (1882-1884) and cattle (1883-1884).
Land administration and legal documentation comprises extensive correspondence and papers relating to conditional purchases and conditional leases for multiple properties including Brewon, East Lynne, McPhail's, Arran, and Box Camp (1881-1912). Related documentation includes land purchase agreements, certificates of confirmation, lease receipts, matters pertaining to improvement leases (1907-1912), outstanding balances records (1910), Department of Lands correspondence (1883-1884), and land agent correspondence (1883-1886).
Other documentation includes insurance policies and receipts, Bank of Australasia correspondence (1886-1887), shearers' agreements (1886-1887), workers' accounts (1884), station accounts (1883), telegrams (1886-1887), and miscellaneous receipts.
