The identity of the author was definitely established in 1972, as William Telfer Jnr who was born at Calala (West Tamworth) on 26 July 1841. He was the son of William Telfer Snr, the first manager of 'Warrah' who was in the employ of the Australian Agricultural Company under 'Commissioner' Parry. The reminiscences relate to the period from the 1840s to the years after Federation.

This volume, is sometimes erroneously referred to as "a shepherd's diary" or the "original diary of William Telfer".

There is a second manuscript, essentially a shorter version of the Wallabadah manuscript, which was written during WW1 as a replacement for the original which the author thought lost in a fire.

The Archives holds a copy of this second manuscript (A0380).
